Chateau de Castelnaud

Chateau de Castlenaud was built in the 12th century and is located south-west of Domme. It was an important fortress during the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) and the Wars of Religion (1562-1598) and the site of many fierce battles (and many hangings). It houses the Museum of Medieval Warfare. The views across the valley are spectacular, from Domme to Beynac, the stronghold of a rival Baron's forces.
