Domme

Domme is a hilltop fortress town south of Sarlat which was founded in the late-13th century. Panoramic views of the Dordogne River and surrounding valleys (see the background in the photo of our dinner at L'Esplanade (best meal in the Dordogne)). In the other picture we are standing outside the lower tower gate - it is unusual for these types of towns to retain their tower gates. The towers on either side of the gate also served as prisons! Domme has grottos (caves) which were used as hide-outs during WW II.
