Wine Tasting and Dining in Saint Emilion

We're already a bit tired of French food, so we delighted in finding a pizzeria which made delicious thin crust Italian-style pizza, a little cafe which made great Tagliatelle Carbonara and another little cafe which made fantastic curry chicken kebabs and a mesclun salad. The restaurants do not allow you to bring your own wine (no corkage), so we've done take-out for lunch so we can drink the older and harder-to-find Bordeaux wines we bought on our first day here - 1982 Chateau Lafon-Rochet, 1986 Vieux Chateau Certan, 1989 Chateau Haut-Bailly and 1990 Chateau Figeac. We are staying at the Hostellerie de Plaisance which is owned by the same family who owns Chateau Pavie (and several other chateaus in the region, we learned). Finally, a comfortable bed! We have visited 4 premier grand cru classe B chateaus in St. Emilion: Chateau Troplong Mondot, Chateau Pavie Macquin, Chateau Figeac and Chateau Pavie. The two premier grand cru classe A chateaus in St. Emilion, Chateau Ausone and Chateau Cheval Blanc, are not open for appointments (unless you are someone extremely special). Larry says we can't visit chateaus in the other regions of Bordeaux on this trip because we need to save something for the next visit! However, while driving through the vineyards and getting us lost in an ultimately successful effort to find Chateau Cheval Blanc (just to drive by), I did inadvertently veer into Pomerol! We had another terrific meal at Le Tertre, where we enjoyed a 1998 Pavie Decesse. At our meal at the Hostellerie de Plaisance, we enjoyed a 2000 Clos Fortet.
